ABSTRACT

The main objectives of this thesis are: to study the Buddhist ways of doctrinal propagation, to study the principles considered by Phrakittiyansopon in propagation of Buddhism, and to study the effective result of  Phrakittiyansopon in propagation of Buddhism. However, this work was conducted with qualitative research methodology.

The result of this study found that the Buddha presented his teachings with the intention of public benefits. His methods were based on four skillful teaching principles namely: (1) Sandassana: making materials clear with classification, an analysis, and reasonable description, (2) Samadapana: making listeners convinced and appreciated to be conscious of the values and importance, (3) Samuttejana: arousing listeners to get new knowledge by interesting description, and (4) Sampahamsana: creating an atmosphere of fun, cheerfulness, joyousness and delight. These skilful teaching methods of the Buddha drew attention of a man in getting great faith in moral practices and led them to live happily and peacefully in the society.

Phrakittiyansopon (Buaphan Pakunadhammº), in propagation of Buddhism, he accordingly followed the five principles of Dhammakathika (one who preaches the doctrines): his instruction is regulated and gradually advanced (Anupubbikatham); it contains with reasoning or refers to causality (Pariyadassavi); it is inspired by kindness (Anudayatam paticca); it is not for worldly gain (Na amisantaro); and it dose not hurt oneself or others (Anupahacca). Collectively, he considered various kinds of techniques and skillful methods in teaching Buddhist doctrine to the devotees such as using a simple word, illustrated with historical events and current situation, and he knew an appropriate occasion to present his teachings. However, all his Dhamma instructions were come under the cornerstone of Buddhism- morality (Sila), concentration (Samadhi), wisdom (Paññâ) as well as four divine states of mind (Bhrammavihara), principles for workings. Thus, his teachings were considerable by all walks of life.

For the six categories of his Sangha administrative management, administration that covered both authority and kindness in deputy  khon  kaen  Sanghre  gover  now  and the abbot of Srinuan Temple made the controlee monks lived in peace. Educationally, he wholeheartedly supported monks and novices in their studies both Buddhism and general educations. In the case of public facilities, he organized temple with clean environment, repaired the buildings in which to be repaired. For the social-education welfare, he had been yearly donated scholarship to the resident monks and well-studies students. He also donated his funds to build library, schools, hospitals, and help a poor and a victim. Last but not least, for the Buddhist activities, he paid much concern regard Buddhist activities. For instance, on the important days such as Vesak Day, Asalaha Day, the Buddhist Lent-beginning Day, and Magha Puja Day, Teacher Day, Meeting between Novices and Their Parents Day, Father Day and Mother Day, he would organized the Dhamma-training activities as an additional activities to both lay people and monastic members.
