Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

The objectives of the study titled “Buddhists’ and Christians’ Perception Towards The Concept of Death in Sathon District, Bangkok City” are :  1) to study the level of a perception of  Buddhists and Christians towards the concept of death in Sathon District, Bangkok City,  2) to study the differences between the perception of  Buddhists and Christians towards the concept of death in Sathon District, Bangkok City  and 3) to study the relationship of the perception of life and death in different aspects. 

This is a survey research. The sample consisted of 184  Buddhists and Christians in Sathon District, Bangkok City.  Statistics used are percentage (%), frequency distribution (ƒ), Mean ( ), standard deviation (S.D.), t-test, F-test and Coefficient correlation.

 

The Results are as follows :

1) Personal Information

It is found that sample are mostly female (71.7%), age below 20 (56%), single (78.3%), bachelor degree (59.2%), no death in family (47.3%), Buddhists (58.2%).

 

2) The level of Perception of Death Concept

The sample perceived of the death, in total and in each aspects at high level (  = 3.76, S.D. = 0.968 ) The perception levels of four aspects can be ranked in descending order ; illness (  = 4.31, S.D. = 0.824), religions belief (  = 4.09, S.D. = 1.00), death mindfulness (  = 3.92, S.D. = 0.996) and life extinction aspect (  = 3.75, S.D. = 1.055) respectively.

 

3) Difference in level of Perception of Death Concept

It is found that the samples differing in religions beliefs, and number of deaths in family, had the significant difference in the level of death perception at the 0.05 level. Whereas, there are no significant differences in the level of death perception of the sample differ in  sexes, ages, marital status and educations.

 

4) The Relationship of the level of death

There are correlations of the level of death perception between religions belief, death mindfulness, life extinction, illness and in total aspects, to each others, at the 0.01 level.
