Abstract

Abstract

             The thematic paper, ‘Social Work in Tipitaka” had main purposes to study a principle of social work in Tipitaka and to analyze social work in Tipitaka. This was a qualitative research to collect all data from Tipitaka and related researches about social work with the descriptive analysis.

             A result of this study was found that the social work in Tipitaka stressed on Sangahavatthu: Dāna, Piyavācā, Atthacariyā and Samanattatā. Dāna was to give proper things such as food, knowledge, and forgiveness in other animals and people. Piyavācā was to produce true speech, proper in time, useful, polite and full of loving kindness. Atthacariyā was to grow benefits stressing on the public benefits rather than personal benefits. Samanattatā was to behave properly in the given position and to do the duty with morality, justice, and proper continuity towards the associated people.   

             The analysis of the social work in Tipitaka was found that helping referred to Sangahavatthu : (1) Dāna to give things and Dhamma, (2) Piyavācā to produce speech useful for other people, harmonious among people without looking down, true in the content and times, useful, polite, bland, without lying, integrating and slandering, (3) Atthacariyā to bring benefits to a family, a village, a community, and the nation with making the cooperation with the government, and (4) Samānattatā to keep good action continuously and to get faith from the other people without swindling, and to launch continuously the good action of giving, morality, meditation.
