Abstract

This dissertation entitled “The Buddhist Integrated Organization Development according to Seven Noble Treasures” has three objectives: 1) to study the ideas, theories and processes of organizational development, 2) to study the seven noble treasures, and 3) to integrated the development of organizations according to seven Noble Treasures. This study was a qualitative research.

The results clearly showed that the organizational development functionally refers to the systematic process of improvement in terms of operation focusing on empowerment of organizational staff through certain knowledge and understanding based on required working skills including good attitude and behavior towards their organization where the ability in terms of efficiency and effectiveness is aimed at by the framework of the expected goal, process goals and outcome goals.

In Buddhism, seven noble treasures are mentioned as follows: 1) confidence, 2) morality, 3) moral shame, 4) moral dread, 5) great learning, 6) liberality, and 7) wisdom. It is said that these are the internal properties which cannot be taken by anyone and thereby becoming the more important than the external one, wealth, money, for instance. On the one hand, such the external properties can be taken way by anyone or some natural disaster, on the other hand, on the other hand, the noble treasures, if own by someone, are not possible to be  taken away resulting the protection of the world.

The organizational development done through the integration with seven treasures could be shown as follows: 1) the principle of confidence can be used to inculcate staff to have strong faith in the organization and servicers where the harmony and the organizational culture are strictly observed as their duty, 2) the application of the integrated precepts to get staff morally trained where the honesty, disciplinary  and respect for others’ rights are gradually grown leading to peaceful and harmonious environment in the organization, 3) the application of moral shame and moral dread to grow staff’s  responsible spirit where their awareness of good and bad is planted and thereby making them see the important role and duty to follow the prescribed regulation without any wrong doing due to their senses of moral shame and moral dread in performing bad conduct both in the private and public areas, 4) the integration of hearing to empower staff’s skills in terms of knowledge and right direction through activities in learning and training where the learning organization is prioritized, 5) the integration of generosity to inseminate  sense of love to staff where they possess loving kindness, sympathetic joy, help, kind and  no-exploitation which will give rise to the happy organization, and 6) the integration of wisdom to balance between  the material development and mental development. In this, the administrators should have the required knowledge, visions, and plans of operation including necessary information so that they can evaluate the results wherein the staff’s development of knowledge can be provided and consequentially the good model can be actualized. Under this circumstance, whatever problems faced by them will be completely solved and then the expected goal would be achieved bringing about the considerably successfulness to then given organization.
