Rehabilitation and Curing for the Physical and Mental Balance according to Vajrayana Buddhism

Abstract

This research consists of 3 objectives as: 1) to study the concept of rehabilitation  and curing  for balanced of physical and mental health in the Asia and the West. 2) To study the process and outcome of rehabilitation and curing for balanced of physical and mental in line of Vajrayana buddhism. and 3) To analyze process and outcome of rehabilitation and curing for balanced in line of Vajrayana Buddhism.
The research was conducted by the documentary research method; data
collection by a survey for evidence based in Dharamshala: community of Tibetan, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, India.

The findings indicate that, the concept of rehabilitation and curing balanced of physical and mental health in the Asia and West had developed from traditional medicine of primitives by healing with herbs and worship God; based on religious and cultural beliefs. Medical and pharmaceutical have continue to be developed ;  In the Asia developed into Ayurvedic, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Buddhist medicine and the West developed into modern medicine. The process of rehabilitation and curing for balanced of physical and mental in line Vajrayana Buddhism was the Bodhisattva’s path healing by Tibetan doctors ; divided into 2 aspects as 1) The process of promoting for balanced physical - mental health. 2) The process of rehabilitation and maintaining for balanced physical-mental health.

The first process is giving dietary, habit and behaviors lifestyles advices for healthy personals. The Second process is rehabilitation and balance of three humors in body and mind patients by dietary,  habit and behaviors  lifestyles advice, herbal medicine and other treatments. The results from 2 patterns of process; consisted of 3 effects: 1) wellbeing; recovery from illness 2) longevity and 3) peaceful life. The data analyzed of process and outcome of rehabilitation and curing for balanced of physical and mental in line of Vajrayana buddhism illustrated there were the similarity and the difference from modern medical science. The similarity of process were 2 topics 1) Total 4 steps of process like characteristic steps of 4 Nobel Truths i.e. illness diagnosis, prognosis, recovery and medicine to cure treatment.2) Health care service was consisted of 4 components : Promotive, Preventive, Curative and Rehabilitative. The difference of process were 2 topics 1) Tibetan doctors performed self-healing; not rely on medical equipment/technology/ multidisciplinary team

The similarity of outcome were 2 topics 1) Defining result: wellbeing; recovery from illness 2) longevity and 3) peaceful life. 2) Management levels outcome of health : from individual, family /community to national/world. The difference of outcomes : three outcomes of health by Tibetan medical were inter-linked affect in patients and healer due to power of  body and mind healing.  On the other hand, the modern medical system focused to meet the physical needs of patients by using new technology in specialization therapy.

Therefore, it is suggested that, should apply principle of Vajrayana to care suffering–diseases patients, e.g., palliative, cancer. It should be advocated as a national health care policy in a form of integrity. Focus on creating values ​​and awareness in balance of health; starts with the family to provide good quality of life for the people.
