Psychosocial Factors Related to Behaviors on the Five Precepts and the Five Virtues of Secondary School Students in Bangkok

Abstract

                 The research entitled “Psychosocial factors related to Behaviors on the Five Precepts and the Five Virtues of secondary school students in Bangkok” consisted of three objectives. The study aimed: 1) to study and analyze behaviors on the Five Precepts and the Five Virtues in Theravada Buddhism, 2) to study the differences of personal and psychosocial factors affecting the correlation in behaviors on the Five Precepts and the Five Virtues of secondary school students in Bangkok, and 3) to propose problems of the correlation in behaviors on the Five Precepts and the Five Virtues of secondary school students in Bangkok. The study was a mixed of quantitative and survey research with the sample of 324 persons using questionnaire. Statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson Correlation.

 

            From the study, it was found that the level of self-confidence of secondary school students in Bangkok as a whole was at middle level, the level of motive achievement as a whole was at high level, the level of family relationship as a whole was at high level, the level of the relationship between teachers and students as a whole was at middle level, the level of the correlation in behaviors on the Five Precepts and the Five Virtues of secondary school students in Bangkok as a whole was at high level.

           

            From the study, it was also found that the correlation in personal factor, the school years and behaviors on the Five Precepts and the Five Virtues of secondary school student in Bangkok was a positive correlation at a medium level; the correlation in mental factor, the self-confidence and behaviors on the Five Precepts and the Five Virtues of secondary school student in Bangkok was a positive correlation at a low level; and the correlation in social factor, the relationship between teachers and students and behaviors on the Five Precepts and the Five Virtues of secondary school student in Bangkok was a positive correlation at a low level.
