Abstract

This thesis is to study of  self-care of  diabetic patients  according to the Four  Noble Truths. Three objectives are conducted in this research. Firstly, it is to study the behavior in self-care of diabetic patients. Secondly, it is to study of  self-care of  diabetic patients  according to the Four Noble Truths from the Tipitaka Commentary. Finally, it is to study of  self-care of  diabetic patients  according to the Four Noble Truths in Sainoi Hospital, Nonthaburi Province. This research is divided into a phenomenologically qualitative research, and a documentary research. The data are collected by in-depth interview.

From the research, it is found that at present, most of the people who receive the hospital services in the state of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity resulting from the lack of proper care the fact of which easily causes the illness. Each of the diabetic patients who has problems of their health care varies, depending on many factors such as the belief, the satisfaction in the body 's sex, age, status of different ethnic traditions, including the religious awareness events both inside and outside the self. The good quality of each of the diabetic patients 's life is a result of his   self-care. If the patients are well interested in their health care, they will be able to live happily. On the contrary, if a patient does not take care of his health as good as it should be, when he is a diabetic for a long time, there will easily be in a confused state. Thus the diabetic patients 's self-concept and behavioral care is important in order to cause the diabetes to be  of  awareness and interest in their health care.

From the study of  self-care of  diabetic patients  according to the Four Noble Truths appearing in the Buddhist Scripture, it is found that the Four Noble Truths can be applies to both terms of materiality on mundane state  and super mundane one, because  the Four Noble Truths are mainly of the links to the true nature of human use. The Buddha formatted the system to keep then rightly and is the reasonability. This is to cause the people to understand the reality of suffering, the causes of suffering, the causes leading to the cessation of suffering. Anyone who can take this principle into practice, he will be free from suffering both physically and mentally. The physical state of happiness and delight can be replaced. It can be seen that the Four Noble Truths are the ways to solve life problems directly and as the means of solving life problems. They can be applied to solving the problems by the care of patients of diabetes, because the health problems is      a problem of life in another form.

From the in-depth interviews it is found that the patients with diabetes take care of themselves in the matter of diet, know about the food exchange list or modify the menu to themselves and take medication tablets or injections. They also follow the instructions by the physician. Not modify the drug by himself. They observed the symptoms that may occur between exposure to drugs, and have exercise regularly at leisure time with personal hygiene, cleanliness of the body such as skin, mouth, feet and go to the doctor      according to the appointments for following-up the treatment and surveillance of potential complications. When they are sick, they go to see the doctor before an appointment. They have a compassionate prayer or meditation to relax the mind from suffering or when they are uncomfortable. However, not all the patients can take care of themselves all as mentioned above. Although the diabetes cannot explain all the main Four Noble Truths,  the process of the Four Noble Truths may already infiltrate the life of self-care by the diabetic patients. Therefore, the patients with diabetes caused by any awareness are interested to understand more about the self-care, and the modifying of behavior to conform with the main results of the Four Noble Truths which will cause the good   physical health to arise and the psychological distress will not arise at all.
